Soft Sided Braid - Bun

This is a very elegant do, but it's so simple to acheive. It uses the technique of the one sided braid and the soft sided braid.  It can be done easily in under 5 minutes, and once it's finished you can dress it up with some beautiful accessories. For dancing, may daughter uses gem stone pins and they add a little bling.  It's quite a classical look and we always get many compliments on it when she wears it.  If your hair is shorter, the braids might not extend all the way to the front of the head, but the effect is still quite lovely.  Try it and see for yourself, be sure to post us a comment and let us know what you think. :-)

How to Colour Your Hair With Chalk

I'm not a big fan of dying kids hair, I know there's a lot of Mums out there who think it's fine and that's great, but it's never sat comfortably with me.  So when my Rapunzel's came home with stories of their friends putting colour in their hair with highlighters and nikko's I was a little worried.  I understand there can be so much fun in colour (hey mine's been many shades over the years), but I decided to try chalking their hair.  I also had many other mums ask how to do it and I've been sending them to another website (why reinvent the wheel?).  But I've also been asked specifically how to do it on dark hair, and long, long hair - so this tutorial answers that and more.  It was VERY messy the first time we did this, (it wouldn't be so bad in blonde hair or even shorter hair, but with dark you need so much more colour).  It seems to be getting less messy each time we do it, but don't say you weren't warned.  Also, their hair does have a chalky texture to it afterwards and although their hair appears normal after a good wash - I admit to using a decent mask/moisturiser on it, just in case.  All in all - its had the desired effect. Colour that is quite vibrant, but washes out.  Try it if you dare :-)

Braid 'n' Curls

 Got somewhere special to go?
This hair-do is perfect for any age, little Rapunzel's look just as pretty as tweens,

teens and Mums in this do.  All you need is hair long enough to go across the back of the head.
The double headband look is a cute and simple way to get the hair out the face, while really setting off the look of the curls.  Ours stayed surprisingly tidy all day, and no clips fell out.

A keep-er in our books - and just over 5 minutes to complete.  We've tried it as a second day hairstyle after braids the day before (no need to curl) and it was even faster and easier. (I so like that!!!)
Have fun trying it out :-)

Soft Side Braid

This is our most popular braid at home right now, Big Rapunzel asks for it almost every weekend. It's quick - complete in under 5 mins and is perfect for her long tresses and new found love of the messy look.  I didn't fatten and flatten this one, but thats another version we do alot. It seems to "grow" as the day goes on making it seem even prettier if we head out for a meal in the evening...

I haven't tried it on other hair lengths, but it will work on shoulder length hair and longer quite easily.

We finished this one off with a wrapped ponytail to cover the elastic, but a pretty flower or ribbon finishes it off even more.

Have fun with this one :-)

Big Girl Messy Bun

My big Rapunzel is always after messy unstructured looks, and these buns are all the rage - the only thing is, very long Rapunzel hair is quite hard to french braid upside down - so when Rapunzel asked for something like this - I just had to find a cheats way.  This video is my cheats version of a very popular messy bun with a braid at the back.

In fact I don't think little Rapunzel would lay upside down for me anyway - so this will work a  treat with fidgeter's and extra long hair alike...

Have fun with this one :-)

Braid Embellished Ponytail

This is a quick easy way to dress up a ponytail.  You can use a standard braid, a twist or a 4 strand braid like we've done here.  Having it start on the left and wrap to the right gives it a fantastic new edge.

This is great for medium, long and extra long hair, and you can wear it for work or play.

Have a go, and let us know what you think :-)

Wave Ribbon Braid

Here's a cutie for your little Rapunzel.

We've done this one in so many colours now and each time it looks a little different, so make sure you try this with all your favourite ribbons.  You'll need twice the length of your ponytail and the rest is simple. Don't forget to fatten and flatten out as the wave effect looks great!!

Have fun :-)

How to Curl Hair With a Straightener

Most people don't realise you can curl hair with a straightener, or some have heard, but are not sure how - well this video will teach you the simple trick to curling your hair with a straightener.  I'm not a big fan of using the iron on the kids hair as
1. Its dangerous and 2. It's not great for their hair.
Always use heat protectant and be careful with high heat appliances.

Enjoy the video and let us know what you think. :-)

Uneven Twister Ponytail

Sometimes we get bored of the same 'ol hair styles.  This Uneven Twist is a new spin on a favourite.  We've done a basic ponytail at the back, but you can use this hairstyle in so many ways.  It is just as versatile as braiding/plaiting can be.  Don't be shy, use it in lots of different ways and don't forget to send us your piccy's or let us know what you think.

Have fun :-)

5 Strand Braid

Here it is!  The next installment of braids.

I thought this one was going to be so hard to master, but actually in some ways it's easier than 4 strands, and the more you practice it - the more I think you'll agree.  This one also seems to look more impressive, with very little extra effort.  Remember not to braid too tightly, and you can even fatten and flatten afterwards for an even more enhanced look.  My BIG Rapunzel loves this braid, as she is a fan of the new "messy look", we often do this one in a ponytail on the side, and I notice she likes this one the best. If you're nervous start with the hair in a ponytail and just play, after two or three goes, you'll have it mastered!

Curly Flipped Up-do

Here's something Extra Special for you - And I did it in 5 Minutes!!  (Not under 5 minutes like usual - but 5 minutes no worries).
This "Up Do" is great for Shoulder length (YES), Long and Extra long hair, though the longer it gets the more out there it is.  My girls struggle to keep the curls in, even though they have natural curl in their hair - all that length just pulls them out after a while. This "Curl" technique lasts and lasts and lasts - Plus there's no HEAT. It almost looks like dreadlocks - but softer.  You're going to think it took ages to brush out - but actually it comes out as easily as it goes in.  Let us know what you think :-)

Double Rope Bun

YES!!  We've found another way to use TWISTS!!
My youngest Rapunzel would love to have some kind of fancy bun every day of the week, so finding quick easy ways to jazz up bun hair is becoming my specialty.  I'd love to see this Hair-do worn on a special occasion with some pretty accessories and a dress that softens it.  We have worn it with a few celtic themed accents before and it looks right at home.

Give it a go - Under 5 minutes and you'll have everybody guessing it took you aaaaaages :-)

Enjoy

Kiddy Tutorial - Jasmine Ponytail

Introducing our *New* Section - Kiddie Do's!! Hair-Do's so easy your kids can do them by themselves!!! Big Rapunzel has the first one for you with this great little ponytail do.  Inspired by Princess Jasmine, this hairdo is an easy one even the most "Hair-Challenged-Folk" can do.  Now there's no excuse!  My Rapunzel's have both only JUST started learning to do their hair on their own, and I am surprised at how quickly they are learning.  We aren't practicing EVERY day or anything - just any time they're interested basically.

This one works on medium, long and extra long hair - as she says - just do smaller bubbles. I love her trick to get them puffy though.

Spiral Ponytail Braid

This is a GREAT hairdo and a weekly favourite of ours. It's VERY easy and can be done in under 5 minutes.  We get sick of ponytails around here, and this is a great way to jazz up a ponytail.
I've done it on shoulder length hair, long hair and extra long hair, and the spirals just seem to space out brilliantly no matter what.  You can add some extra fun and do some one sided french braids either side of the front leading into the ponytail and that looks great too.

Try it and see what you think. We'd love to hear your comments.

Twisted Headband

The holidays meant lots of lazy days aroudn the house, and this hair-do is perfect for that and more. It gets the hair out of the kids face, but just makes it a little nicer if we decided to go out and see friends later on.  The twisted accent is very popular right now and we always get comments asking how we did it.  If you're looking for some simple things to do to jazz up boring old favourites - this one does the trick nicely.
We've also done this one on Extra long Rapunzel - We used thicker twists, and curled the hair ends for a special dinner outing - she was the Belle of the restaurant and everyone LOVED it.  Not bad for a 3 minute hairdo!

Braid Inside A Braid

The simple things are often the
best - and this great little hairdo

comes just in time for school!

These kind of hairstyles are often
my savior on busy mornings.
Under 5 minutes and you'll get
heaps of comments.
Whenever we do this plait inside
a plait, people stop us and
comment.  It's super easy, but
just adds a little something different
to the norm.
Check out the video and let us

know what you think :-)

Twin French Braids

This tutorial is for all those Mummies who've asked for another refresher in "how-to French Braid".  I've been particularly careful to give you the most detailed instructions I can.
These instructions are very clear, but my tip to you all is "practice, practice, practice".
Also, pay particular attention to the way you hold the hair while you do it too - everyone has their own way of holding the hair, but some ways are easier than others....  Your "natural" way of holding the hair might be tripping you up a little.  Other than that it really is just practice makes perfect I swear :-)
Keep at it, and be sure to add your pictures on our Facebook page.
