Flipped Braid Bun

Hi Guys,  Things have been a little rough in our household with lots of us down sick :(  We still had time to put this little number together for you this week.  It's been so cute and we've gotten heaps of comments. You'll need your ponytail flipping tool for this one. If you don't have one, don't forget we have a video of how to make your own using items around your home.  Check it out and let us know what you think and send us your variations.

Have fun with this one...If you enjoyed this hairstyle tutorial, please feel free to share it with your friends.. the more we get the word out the more hairstyle fun we can have :-)

Slide Up Braid - 4 Strand

This is a great little hairdo you are just going to love. So simple and easy, but really effective and cute.  We are doing more and more pullbacks, so we mostly wear this hairdo in the long "out" version, but we've also done a side pony version for you which we think is really cute.  Check it out and let us know what you think. Which one do you like best - long and out, or on the side in a pony?? Let us know and have fun with this one :-)

Twisted Pullback

As my Big Rapunzel is growing up, she's looking less and less for little girl looks, and more and more for big girl looks, and she really loves pullbacks.  They're perfect for keeping the hair out the face, but still let her show her length off.  This week we settled a few times for this braided twist pull back and I was surprised how quick and easy it was, yet it stayed neat (much to her disgust) all day long.  This photo was actually taken at the end of the day, as we forgot in the morning.  There's a few fly aways (that's how she likes it) but I think you'll agree, it kept together really nicely.  When I do this one on Little Rapunzel, we wet the hair first and give it a little spray with hairspray afterwards, it stays super slick and neat all day.  Try whichever way you prefer, but have fun with this one :-)

Triple Waterfall Braid

We've been having a great time on our holidays how about you?  Lots of people think we must have our hair done perfectly all the time, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Sure we have lots of cool hair days, but these holidays we mostly just brushed it in the morning and flew out the door :-)  Unless it's a special occasion, I also really stick to my 5 minute rule. If it can't be done in
under 5 minutes I don't want to do it - life is too short to be spent getting ready.

This week's tutorial is smack on 5 minutes for us - so it cuts it a bit fine. You might like to allow a couple more minutes when you first do it.  It builds on the waterfall braid from our last tutorial but is well worth the effort for something a little bit different and glam.  We wore it to a party we were going to and got HEAPS of comments. As our tutorial says, we got this idea from a facebook page we visit called Rock Your Locks.  They have beauty & fashion tips and heaps of cool hairdo's from sources all over and so when we saw this one, we simply couldn't wait to try it for ourselves and share a tutorial with you.  Check out the video below and see...

Waterfall Braid Double

Hi guys, we've been at it again, this time with waterfall braids. My girls really like the full head version, but I know how much you freak out when I try to get you to do these tricky ones - so I've worked out the simplest or cheaters way to achieve the all round look - is to do a double version - so today's video will show you how to do just that.  I've broken it down step by step to make it really easy for you - so you'll love the simplicity and for those that have liked the idea of the waterfall braid, but been too scardy to try, I've made it so simple - you'll be a pro in no time flat.  Check out the video below and have fun with this one :-)

Mini French Ladder Braid

It's been so busy at the Rapunzel's house lately that we've been focusing on simple but cute hairdo's. The Mini French Ladder Braid is perfect for those times when you want a special look - without the fuss!  We did this hairstyle in about 3 minutes from beginning to end and it works really nicely for just about any hair length.  It is a lot like the Long Loose Braid but with micro braiding. As we mention in the video you can just do a small section at the top - or you can go right down like we have here.  Be sure to try both ways and let us know what you think. Leave us a comment or send in your pictures, but have fun with this one :-)

Underneath Braid

We love one sided braids and we just love this new look. The underneath braid utilizes the one sided, inside out braid (gosh - that was a mouthful), or "dutch lace braid" - and it sits beautifully at the back of the hair giving a lovely detail to the back and side. We also like adding the single braid to the ponytail, making it just that little bit different again.  Let us know what you think....and have fun with this one :-)

Diagonal Boho Braid

Do you like Boho Braids? We are loving the look here at the house of Rapunzel's Mother. We've been looking for some cool, chic but different Boho looks and when we were mucking around we came up with this one.  We've also done this look, with sleek crisp lines, (Basically we kept the braids tight, and didn't fatten and flatten) but we all agree the Boho look tops it in our house. What do you think - Boho or sleek?  This hairstyle works well on long hair but you can also complete the look with medium length hair just don't take the braids around as many times. I've done it on Blonde hair too which looks very special. Have fun with this one :-)

Edgy Braided Ponytail

Hi Guys,  this week my tween (Big Rapunzel) has been having tonnes of edgy ponytails and the ones we get asked about the most is this one. There's lots of pictures on the internet for this kind of look with the pompadour in the front with a higher, loosely braided punk style ponytail, but no really clear instructions or tutorial on how to do it! Don't worry, we totally have you covered with the exact info you need to achieve this look. As Big Rapunzel has been having more and more of these styles lately, little Rapunzel has joined in and today's Tutorial is a cute "girlie" version, though you can make it even edgier if you're a biggie.  Have fun with this one and don't forget to tell your friends :-)

Infinity Ponytail

After a HUGE week of school musicals and hair and make up galore - we thought it was time for something really simple and classic. We've seen this hairstyle on a few catwalks lately and wanted to demo how we do it. In the video I show you how you can use a teeny hairband to finish it off, but I'll be honest with you here on the blog - we usually use our ponytail flipping tool - its quicker and easier :-) so if you have one of those - go for it.  We've also got a hairstyle variation at the end so be sure to let us know which one you prefer and have fun with this one :-)

The Medievil Braid

We were inundated with requests to provide a tutorial for a picture that was doing the rounds on Pinterest and Tumblr. I wish I could give credit, but the watermark on the original photo was so faint I couldn't make it out :( It is truly a beautiful hairstyle, but it's easier than it looks and we've had a great time making the tutorial.  You can wear this hairstyle on it's own, or you can incorporate it with the ponytail veil from last week like we did. The hairstyle on its own can be done in Well Under 5 Minutes!!! Amazing but true! With the veil it's more like 15 minutes - so only for super special occasions.  This isn't identical, but it's our version, (we like to put our own spin on things here at Rapunzel's Mother - so let us know what you think.

The Ponytail Veil

Hi guys, this has been a fun week of tutorials for our house and we've been extra busy.  This week's hairstyle is an oldie but a goodie. The Ponytail Veil has been around for ages but it's such an amazing hairstyle we wanted to share it with you. It breaks our 5 minute rule, but it's still well under 10 minutes . When we did this hairdo - the most popular comment we received was that many people hated taking the hairbands out again at the end, so we've included a SUPER easy way to remove the hairbands with an appliance you probably have lying around at home, or you'll easily find at a newsagent or stationary store for a couple of bucks - so be sure to watch the hairstyle right to the end.
We'll also be building on this hairstyle next week to create an even more exciting hairdo - so stay tuned til next week and have fun with this one :-)

Pigtail Braid

Hi everyone, we've had a great time doing hair in the Rapunzel's house lately.  This week's Tutorial is the Pigtail Braid.  As you can see it's a braid made from two pigtails, but the effects are really rather special.
We've had such fun with this hairstyle and it has fast become a favourite for our back to school hairdo collection. Like all our hairstyles it can be done in under 5 minutes, but still looks rather special.  You can wear it long and luscious, but we love it dressed up for school with ribbons.  It suits medium, long and extra long hair.  You're bound to get heaps of great comments with this one...

Twisty Tails

Hey Guys, check out our latest video. We've been having fun again and this time we found something we think you'll really like. This is a great hairdo for little-ones, or for when you just want something a bit fun. It works on hair that is long enough to put into pig tails.  My Big Rapunzel loves this new style and has asked for it again and again.  It's nothing tricky, but it is super fun.  Let us know what you think.. is it cute or just silly?

Ribbon Braid-let

Sometimes the hardest thing about doing these video's is not actually the hairstyles themselves but coming up with names for them LOL.  It's a funny name we know, but "The Ribbon Braid-let" is about as close as we could think to describing it... If you come up with a better name, leave us a comment below and we'll change it.  This hairstyle is a continuation of the "Ribbon Braid" we did last week, but with a lovely twist using the micro-braiding. We first saw this in a picture on Pinterest, but noticed there was no video for it, so we couldn't wait to show you how it's done and share it with you.. we hope you like it as much as we do. Have fun with this one...

The Ribbon Braid

Did you like last week's 4 Stranded Round Braid?  This week, we're carrying on the theme. This Ribbon braid uses the same technique, but you use the ribbon as two strands of the 4 strand braid.  The effect is quite dramatic as the ribbon winds through the braid in a streamlined way, producing a completely different looking braid. Check out the video to see how we enhanced the braid even more.  These braids have been around for awhile, but the video breaks it down and shows you slowly and simply how you can create this look for yourself.  We'll be back again next week with another great variation, but in the mean time... have fun with this one.

4 Strand Round Braid

This 4 Strand Braid or plait is a round version, and it leads into another style we've got in store for you in our next tutorial. We're always thinking ahead ;-)  The 4 strand Round braid has been around for a really long time, but there's a few different versions on HOW you can achieve it.  This version is a really easy version that you'll just love.  It's super simple and can be done as fast as a regular braid after only one or two goes.  Have fun with this one...

The Mid Flip

We love "Super Simple" here at Rapunzel's Mother.  The girls often ask me for half ponytail hairdo's and it's great to have a few styles that dress them up, without the fuss. This hairstyle can be done on just about all hair lengths and thick or thin hair too. Basically if you can get it in a half ponytail - you can "Mid Flip" it.  You don't even need a ponytail flipping tool to get the job done - you'll see I just use my fingers in this video, but of course if you have one - it's even EASIER to do.  This hairstyle looks great on short, blonde bob's! Have a go with this simple little number and let us know what you think.  Don't forget to share your pics on our Facebook wall or tag us on Instagram @RapunzelsMother #MidFlip. Have fun with this one :-)

Criss Cross Braided Bun

The Criss Cross Braided Bun is super easy and simple.  With buns being so popular at the moment, we're always on the look out for new designs and we've certainly had fun doing this one.  If your daughters are constantly requesting buns, then this one is great.  You can wear it high and messy for teen styles or low and chic for something special. You can also do the braided accents on top like we have, or underneath for something different if you are wearing it high. (It just sets it off if it's higher to go underneath).  This hairstyle suits long and extra long hair, but we've done it on shoulder length hair too, the bun is just smaller and you just tuck the braids into the bun instead of going round it.  Let us know what you think and have fun with this hairstyle...

How To Do The Braided Twist

Here it is!  At last we show you how to do the braided twist..
What I love about this hairstyle is once you've had a couple of practices, it becomes easier and easier, in fact it is so much easier than french braids or dutch braids as you only have to work with or hold 4 strands of hair, instead of 5.  This is a big deal when you are working with hair that is so long ;)

The twisted braid can be done on medium length hair, long or extra long hair (basically if you can french braid it, you can twist braid it). It will only take you 5 minutes or less, and you can be creative and do two braids, diagonal (our current favourite) or the simple single style we've chosen here.
