Scallop Braid

Just in time for Christmas, this lovely little braid is a good one for party Rapunzels. We've been shopping on Facebook and found some really fantastic handmade hairclips. The hair accessories featured are from great local companies and no they did NOT pay us to feature them :-)

We hope you enjoy this one :-)

How to do a Basic Ballet Bun

I don't know why, but this would have to be the most asked for hairstyle I get... Little Rapunzel is a dancer, and she has lots of dancing friends, so I often get asked how I do her hair.... everyone has their own little technique, and I guess I'm no different.  So here you go, this is my way of doing ballet hair - little to no fly-aways and super smooth...

The Elegant Bun

We had so much fun with this Hairstyle and we hope you will too. I have been wearing this one myself to a few parties lately as it just looks so darn cute. It's also especially easy on those I-haven't-washed-my-hair-for-awhile days...eek!  Anyhow dig out your football socks, coz that's just what you need to give this one the oomph it requires, whilst keeping it smooth and straight - back combing and teasing is so yesterday you know.....
As we said in the video, we purchased our hair accessories from "Hair Pretties n Things". I know as soon as we add a hair anything in a video you all ask where to get them, so if you like them, you know where to go now....

Be sure to send us your version as we'd love to see how you go.
Have fun with this one.. :-)

Fastest Fishtail Bun

You've seen us do a fastest fishtail braid, now here it is in Bun version...
We've noticed on Pinterest and Tumblr there's a hairstyle doing the rounds with a fishtail braid into a bun, but who has time for that? It doesn't fit into our 5 minute or less rule, so as usual - we've found a cheats version for you... I'm getting better and better at this one, and I have to say, it's looking more impressive each time... Have fun with this one.

Ballgown Bun

As the video says, when we first saw this hairdo, both the Rapunzel's said it reminded them of a hairdo you would wear to a ball - so of course Little Rapunzel requests it frequently  - every day is a ballgown day you know??  We've added a little something extra to the fringe, so we thought it was time we shared our version with you. We think the side part, sweep and twisted curl is more flattering Hope you like it :-)

Headband Do

We are starting to get in to that time of year and so we are doing a lot of celebration styles, with lots of lovely occasions to look our best for.  This hairstyle has been doing the rounds on pinterest, but we've only seen pictorials for it, and sometimes you just really need a video - so this is our version in video.   It's still under 5 minutes, and looks slightly different every time we do it. I've done this one on myself and I always get heaps of comments. Have fun with this one !

Using a Bun Maker

We've had a request from someone asking us to demonstrate using a "Bun Maker".  These nifty little numbers are great if you are a bit of a "Bun Dummy" (no offense).  While we at Rapunzel's Mother prefer "The Sock Bun" you might find a product like this more helpful.

You can use the bun maker on medium, long and extra long hair, but keep in mind it's a little trickier the longer your hair is.  We've come up with a way to make the bun maker's work on Rapunzel's of all hair lengths - and this video will show you how...

The Romantic Tuck

We didn't get great lighting for this one.  I think we're still trying to find the perfect room to shoot all our videos in. We have done this style a number of times, so if we get some other photo's I'll be sure to upload a better one for you!

This hairstyle is great for all ages, I'm often surprised when I can wear a hairstyle done on the girls myself - but this one is one of those do's.  We call it the Romantic Tuck - because the style is really soft and the maneuver is essentially a VERY easy "tuck".  I can't believe how much hair we can fit in - but it quite simply just goes in, and a few bobby pins later - it's done.   Have fun with this one!

Super Twisty Bun in under 3 minutes

Well... it's not really a bun, but it IS Super twisty and Super fast!
You can see from our video - the trick to making this hairstyle work is damp/wet hair. We just gave the hair a good spritz with water before we started and it made the whole process very manageable. Because we didn't soak the hair completely - it was dry again in a few minutes.  If you miss this step, you may end up like we did and have a tonne of flyaways.

We believe this hairstyle works best for a clean look. But check out the video and tell us what you think??

Have fun with this one :-)

Knotted Braid

Its been a fun week, but things are starting to get busy with X-mas coming up and fancy hairdo's are being explored at the house of Rapunzel.  Today we have a really simple one that can be done on short, medium, long and extra long hair.  In fact the shorter the better for this do, as you'll see having those super long tresses can be tricky with braids If you can get the hair back into a ponytail - you can definitely do this style, if you can't get the hair into a ponytail - you might have to settle for a half-style, and just braid the top part.
I find this braid MUCH easier to do than normal french braiding, and BIG Rapunzel says it doesn't hurt at all, where as sometimes the french braids can pull a little.  Hope you have fun with this one.  Send in your piccy's and don't forget to visit our Facebook page :-)

Braided Hair Rose

Ever wondered how they do these braided flowers?
Well this turtorial will walk you through it step by step.

You can use this hairstyle in lots of ways - we often use it together with the inside out braid, or with a headband braid,
But it DOES look beautiful no matter how you use it.
It is one hairstyle we are constantly asked to demonstrate, so I know you will all get a lot out of it, once you've seen the neat little trick!
Watch the video , then have a go and let us know what you think :-)

How to keep your hair - Tangle Free

We've been asked how to get BIG knots out of hair by one of our Facebook fans, so this tutorial reveals our step by step for getting knots out of long hair.  Of course, it helps if you don't get them in the first place, and so we've covered all the basics from which shampoo to use - to the right style of brush, and even the best brushing techniques, (not to mention how to get those pesky knots out- without tears).  The answer is of course patience...and lots of it!  But after having two girls with extremely long hair, I do have a thing or two to share. Have Fun :-)
(Dry hair is always best for brushing as hair is weaker when its wet, so you can do more damage.)

Kiddy Tutorial - Mixed Up Ponytail

Here is another Kiddy - Do!  Hair so easy your kids can do them. These are also great hairstyles for Dad's to try.. Allow a little bit of practice time in the morning and you will be amazed what they can achieve in a very short space of time (I was gob-smacked!!).  The filming was also done by her sister and so was the end photo - a real Rapunzel kiddy do from beginning to end!

If you are hair challenged - give this one a go!  We would LOVE to see any piccy's of what your Rapunzel's come up with on their own - so please reply or leave us a comment.
Have fun :-)

Knotted Ponytail

Looking for a great way to dress up a simple ponytail?  This "Knot" theme is quick, easy and fun.  It's also perfect for all hair lengths - I used to do this one on my girls when they were babies!  (just stop when you've run out of hair).

Sometimes we do this one straight down the back of the head (in the middle) and it works well, we've also started on the left and worked diagonally across until you reach the right.

Have ago for yourself and don't forget to leave us a comment :-)

Have Fun !!

Y - Braid

This is a great braid from way back - it's a school hair classic!  All you need is 5 minutes.  You can use a ponytail flip tool - or you can simply use a comb and your fingers.  It just adds a little bit of something different to an everyday plait or ponytail.  You can achieve this look with medium, long and extra long hair.  Be sure to leave us a comment and let us know what you think...

Knotted Mowhawk

We have been having so much fun with all the end of school semester music concerts!  What better way to rock on like a Rapunzel than with a GREAT hairdo!  At Rapunzels' Mother, we decided nothing says "Rockstar" quite like a Mowhawk... So this tutorial is our version of a Mowhawk, using a knott technique.

We went for an edgy, messy look to match her costume, with some pulled wispy pieces.  We've also tried it with a BIG fringe at the front and a small one.
We also found that wetting the hair and combing, keeps it looking neat for a formal updo that got lots of comments.   Way more people commented on this do than any other we've done.
Not your everyday hairdo - but lots of fun for those rockstars that like to party!

Go on - I dare you to try it...
Leave us a comment :-)

Soft Sided Braid - Bun

This is a very elegant do, but it's so simple to acheive. It uses the technique of the one sided braid and the soft sided braid.  It can be done easily in under 5 minutes, and once it's finished you can dress it up with some beautiful accessories. For dancing, may daughter uses gem stone pins and they add a little bling.  It's quite a classical look and we always get many compliments on it when she wears it.  If your hair is shorter, the braids might not extend all the way to the front of the head, but the effect is still quite lovely.  Try it and see for yourself, be sure to post us a comment and let us know what you think. :-)

How to Colour Your Hair With Chalk

I'm not a big fan of dying kids hair, I know there's a lot of Mums out there who think it's fine and that's great, but it's never sat comfortably with me.  So when my Rapunzel's came home with stories of their friends putting colour in their hair with highlighters and nikko's I was a little worried.  I understand there can be so much fun in colour (hey mine's been many shades over the years), but I decided to try chalking their hair.  I also had many other mums ask how to do it and I've been sending them to another website (why reinvent the wheel?).  But I've also been asked specifically how to do it on dark hair, and long, long hair - so this tutorial answers that and more.  It was VERY messy the first time we did this, (it wouldn't be so bad in blonde hair or even shorter hair, but with dark you need so much more colour).  It seems to be getting less messy each time we do it, but don't say you weren't warned.  Also, their hair does have a chalky texture to it afterwards and although their hair appears normal after a good wash - I admit to using a decent mask/moisturiser on it, just in case.  All in all - its had the desired effect. Colour that is quite vibrant, but washes out.  Try it if you dare :-)

Braid 'n' Curls

 Got somewhere special to go?
This hair-do is perfect for any age, little Rapunzel's look just as pretty as tweens,

teens and Mums in this do.  All you need is hair long enough to go across the back of the head.
The double headband look is a cute and simple way to get the hair out the face, while really setting off the look of the curls.  Ours stayed surprisingly tidy all day, and no clips fell out.

A keep-er in our books - and just over 5 minutes to complete.  We've tried it as a second day hairstyle after braids the day before (no need to curl) and it was even faster and easier. (I so like that!!!)
Have fun trying it out :-)

Soft Side Braid

This is our most popular braid at home right now, Big Rapunzel asks for it almost every weekend. It's quick - complete in under 5 mins and is perfect for her long tresses and new found love of the messy look.  I didn't fatten and flatten this one, but thats another version we do alot. It seems to "grow" as the day goes on making it seem even prettier if we head out for a meal in the evening...

I haven't tried it on other hair lengths, but it will work on shoulder length hair and longer quite easily.

We finished this one off with a wrapped ponytail to cover the elastic, but a pretty flower or ribbon finishes it off even more.

Have fun with this one :-)

Big Girl Messy Bun

My big Rapunzel is always after messy unstructured looks, and these buns are all the rage - the only thing is, very long Rapunzel hair is quite hard to french braid upside down - so when Rapunzel asked for something like this - I just had to find a cheats way.  This video is my cheats version of a very popular messy bun with a braid at the back.

In fact I don't think little Rapunzel would lay upside down for me anyway - so this will work a  treat with fidgeter's and extra long hair alike...

Have fun with this one :-)

Braid Embellished Ponytail

This is a quick easy way to dress up a ponytail.  You can use a standard braid, a twist or a 4 strand braid like we've done here.  Having it start on the left and wrap to the right gives it a fantastic new edge.

This is great for medium, long and extra long hair, and you can wear it for work or play.

Have a go, and let us know what you think :-)

Wave Ribbon Braid

Here's a cutie for your little Rapunzel.

We've done this one in so many colours now and each time it looks a little different, so make sure you try this with all your favourite ribbons.  You'll need twice the length of your ponytail and the rest is simple. Don't forget to fatten and flatten out as the wave effect looks great!!

Have fun :-)

How to Curl Hair With a Straightener

Most people don't realise you can curl hair with a straightener, or some have heard, but are not sure how - well this video will teach you the simple trick to curling your hair with a straightener.  I'm not a big fan of using the iron on the kids hair as
1. Its dangerous and 2. It's not great for their hair.
Always use heat protectant and be careful with high heat appliances.

Enjoy the video and let us know what you think. :-)
